Apples and Oranges pretty much sums up the standardized tests and the use of formulas. Sometimes cheat sheets with formulas are provided and sometimes they’re not. Should students just be given a list of formulas for tests? Should they really have to memorize them? If so, which ones? How many? Formulas can be looked up from a variety of sources and are readily accessible. Then again, is it worthwhile knowing some of the more important ones? Where do you stand? Your Opinion Counts
mathformulas
yes,i think all students should know math formulas.Look at orther country they are ahead of us in math because they memorize things.I read lots of books on things like this.

Integration
I found integration formulae very good.I was looking for a online math teacher for integration and yes i found ABOUT.Com for this.

i don’t ever know???
urmm,i think we need to provide students with some important formula, but that formula are the main formula where students can derive it..what you think?but it better for students to memorize it as well to help them improve their mathematics skill..sometimes looking at formula sheet in examination just waste the time exactly..

Understanding
It has been my experience that a student retains more when he/she understands the principle or formula rather than memorizing the same principle or formula.

YES
I THINK FORMULAS SHOULD BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS IN ONE WAY OR THE OTHER COS THEY ARE MANY AND ASIDE THAT OTHER SUBJECTS ARE DONE.

Should formulas be memorized?
To advance from basic math to higher math I think it is important.Sometimes other formulas such as Scientific formulas are confusing when both are being taught and tyhe differences sshould be made clear and distinct, causing less confusion.

Sure
of course the maths formulas should be given to students for tests to let they remember it because i , mself i a primar 6 student taking my PSLE.my PSLE maths is actually tomorrow.

memorizing formulas
Dont really have to give them for tests seperately, just make sure you give their applications and then they know how important they are and where they could be used. That makes it more interesting and easy to remember.

learn formulas
learn the formulas – it’s easier, and more reliable.
—Guest sintaulanger
YES
Yes I think they should be provided with the formulas because they have to remember
—Guest bourne
yes
i think the answer is yes because it helps us to be on our finger tips so that test concerning that formula will be easy for us to be solved and so that it can stick in our memory even if goes to college.

NO
No. Students shouldn’t memorize all the formulas in math or even in other subject. There are too many formulas and if you will try to memorize all or half of them, then you will get CRAZY. My advice to you dear students try only to get familiarize on the procedures of each formula.

Confuse
I dont have a clue how to merorize formulas for test its extremly hard to remember but i need a method big time.

High school math teacher
YES—Formulas should DEFINITELY be supplied for students taking math tests. We are testing them on how to think through a problem, format a solution plan and carry out that plan. We are NOT testing them on memorizing formulas. In the ‘real world’ formulas will be available.

yes
yes math formula should be given to students for test unless they knw the formula they cant solve the problem and also students dont study them
—Guest soumya
maths formulas
yes they should be given formulae for test. so that they may be confident.

The Goal is Working Memory
I think when instructors try to make students memorize things like formulas what they are really trying to do is to get the information into their working memory. I know when I was in college I always argued “Why should I memorize this when I can always look it up.” But, then as soon as I got into the workplace I discovered that if I didn’t get this information into my head I would be paralyzed by needing to look up everything! I couldn’t keep up with my co-workers. So I think this should be modeled in classes and on test. Give the students a sheet with any formulas or other information they need. But, then, structure the test so that if they are constantly looking up information that there is no way they could finish on time.
